Brandon’s Supernatural Season 8 Review: Episodes 1 – 9

Well Bran, it took me an age and a day but I finally got your Season 8 review done and in the can.
Episode 1: We Need to Talk About Kevin
Dean escapes from Purgatory, but he’s not the only one. Sam and Dean reunite and they must find Kevin, who managed to get away from Crowley. Things come to a head when Kevin tells them what it is that Crowley wants.
“There’s a demon in you and you’re going to safety school.”
Kevin, to Channing
Favorite Scene: Dean escapes Purgatory and frees Benny.
Bran’s Verdict: Loved it. (Started off slow, but picking up towards the middle. Overall, Crowley really needs to step his game up!)

Episode 2: What’s Up, Tiger Mommy?
Kevin reunites with his mother, and she wants to join Sam and Dean on their quest for the Tablet. However, Crowley has a few tricks up his sleeves.
“Maybe you should try Plan D, for ‘Dumbass.”
Crowley
Favorite Scene: Dean and Benny finds Castiel.
Bran’s Verdict: Loved it. (I’m loving Mrs. Tran. She’s defintitely my new female character to love–Ellen, Lisa, Amelia, and Jody Mills–they’re all my favs. And Crowley possesses Mrs. Tran? Total curveball! LOVED the Purgatory flashback scenes–dark and cold)

Episode 3: Heartache
Sam and Dean investigate a series of murders involving missing organs. Meanwhile, Sam contemplates his life with Amelia.
“I know where I’m at my best, and that is right here, driving down Crazy Street next to you.”
Dean, to Sam
Favorite Scene: Sam and Dean put 2 and 2 together.
Bran’s Verdict: Neutral. (It was okay. Solid, if unspectacular. Jensen’s father, Alan, made a guest appearance was a treat for all SPN fans. Loved the Sam/Amelia flashback scenes–light and warm)

Episode 4: Bitten
A bizarre murder in a college town has Sam and Dean on the case. Three film students uses the opportunity to film the footage… with deadly consequences.
“We don’t get to choose who we are.”
The professor, to Brian
Favorite Scene: Kate’s on her own.
Bran’s Verdict: Hated it. (This was the most-hated episode in SPN history. Love the whole footage-cam scenario, but hate that Sam and Dean got very little camera time. Next time, show us the werewolves!)

Episode 5: Blood Brother
Benny calls Dean for help after being brutally ambushed. Sam reflects his time with Amelia. Things go from bad to worse for Dean and Benny when confronting the Maker. Finally, Sam meets Benny, which leads to friction between Sam and Dean.
“You go and crawl your way out of God’s ass for another ride on the merry-go-round.”
Quentin, to Benny
Favorite Scene: Sam and Benny finally meet.
Bran’s Verdict: Loved it. (This was a very good episode. And Sam giving Dean the bitch-face at the end–totally priceless.)

Episode 6: Southern Comfort
An avenging ghost is responsible for the murders and it’s up to Sam and Dean to solve the case. Garth returns to help the guys, and drama between Sam and Dean ensues.
“Burn a Confederate soldier’s bones in a town full of rednecks? Sure.”
Sam
Favorite Scene: Garth saves Sam from possessed Dean.
Bran’s Verdict: Loved it. (The return of DJ Qualls was well worth it. And that scene when Dean lets his anger for all of Sam’s history was beyond perfection.)

Episode 7: A Little Slice of Kevin
Sam and Dean are shocked when Castiel escapes from Purgatory with no recollection. Mrs. Tran enlists a witch to help her and Kevin, but gets double-crossed, courtesy of Crowley.
“Listen, you little skank. In the service industry, you always deliver the goods, then you get paid. Even hookers know that.”
Mrs. Tran, to Delta
Favorite Scene: Cas vs. Crowley
Bran’s Verdict: Loved it. (This was better than I expected. And Crowley cutting Kevin’s pinky finger–OUCH!)

Episode 8: Hunteri Heroici
A series of deaths in a small town–resembling of cartoons–have Sam, Dean and Castiel on the case. Castiel tells Sam and Dean that he wants to be a hunter, much to their dismay.
“If you wanna play Cowboys and Bloodsuckers, that’s fine. But you’re gonna stick with us, okay? None of this zapping around crap.”
Dean, to Cas
Favorite Scene: Dean and Cas’ convo.
Bran’s Verdict: Loved it. (Those deaths were freaking brutal, but overall, this was a good episode. That talking cat was funny as heck. This would’ve been a cartoon episode, IMO.)

Episode 9: Citizen Fang
Sam asks Martin to keep tabs on Benny. Things get messy when Martin decides to take matter into his own hands, and Dean makes a hard decision.
“I know it’s hard to believe, but I haven’t always been this cute and cuddly.”
Benny, to Dean
Favorite Scene: Sam bumps into Amelia. (The look on Sam’s face? Priceless!)
Bran’s Verdict: Loved it. (A Benny-centric episode with loads of drama! I was glad Benny ganked Martin, and I wish he would beat the shit out of Sam. #iwishyouwould)
Bran’s Say: The first half of Season 8 is off to a rocky start, but I’m hoping the next 14 episodes pack a 1-2 punch.
Gotta run but I totally disagree with you on Episode 4. I’ll add more to that and the remaining links when I return home.
Cheers.
Wow do we review RuPauls Drag Race round these parts
You’re a sight. Always nice to see a name from the day.
We did a trailer post but it’s not a show that I watch and I barely have time for the site as it is. If I see anything around I’ll put it up.
