Is Toccara the typical black woman?

So, I finally caught Celebrity Fit Club:Boot Camp, and it’s motley crew of ‘why are they famous again?’ people.
Off the top of my head (blog-speak for I might forget someone) this season’s beautiful ones are Toccara, Erin Moran, Tina Yothers, Sommore, Willie Aames, Dustin Diamond, AJ Benza and the original host of American Idol.
(yeah, the Cast didn’t move me either)The second thing that struck me is, Celebrity Fit Club aren’t even pretending anymore. This isn’t a show about losing weight, because no one is fat. Of course Dr. Ian tried to remind us the show has ‘Fit’ in its title, not ‘Fat’; but we know a euphemism when we see one.
I want to see fat, famous people lose weight!
Not a woman who just had a baby, or a couple of white men who drank too much beer over the summer. The crew was separated into ‘Newbies’ and ‘Second Chancers’ and they were immediately put through an obstacle course (won by the newbies). Unsurprisingly, Toccara scaled a hundred feet log-thingy with relative ease.
Unsurprisingly because, she’s probably had a few black-men in her life, lol; you know how we do…
But the true surprise came during the now famous perp-walk to the scale. For some reason, Toccara objected to being told she had excess body-fat. She climbed into an unnecessary tirade about body-image and being happy the way she looks.
Now I can easily ask ‘why the fuck are you on the show then?’, but maybe Toccara is just throwing the shit back in their faces…maybe she’s on the show to get fit, not to lose fat.
That’s what happens when you start to get cute with swords; you tend to fall on them. But still, we can’t help but ask if Toccara’s profanity-laced outburst had quite a few people shaking their heads and saying, ‘typical black-woman’
What are your thoughts?
Great writing Steups but she is not the typical black woman, and I should know.
Of course not. And honestly I’m not sure what is “typical” of any race because there are so many things that are factored in to what shapes us. Upbringing, personal experiences, culture etc.
But I can say that I am tired of the whole “They make the black race look bad” comment.
I have yet to hear a caucasion make the same remark about Jeffery Dahmer or Charles Manson.
And back to Toccara who knows what was really going on. It could have all been for publicity or maybe for some reason her feelings where really hurt. I have not watched this season yet, but I do remember when she was first on CFC she revealed how life was growing up with a drug addicted mother . So maybe becuase of her experiences she ids “extra” sensitive.
I mean I know I turn into the excorcist when someone drinks the last of the kool-aid and does not make more, so I can’t judge her
Jeffery Dahmer and Charles Manson make the whole HUMAN race look bad…so do rednecks and bigots….LOL
Sorry Adawil I couldn’t resist…..
The only thing I resented about that episode was the nerdy doctor telling Toccara to “Show some class”. He probably has a white wife/girlfriend/boyfriend. And before you say it or ask it, yes I am a black woman.
He does. Which is interesting b/c he’s clearly a ‘mo.
Jorundi:
My guess is boyfriend.
Toccara is just ghetto. See my post about her at
absurdtosublime.blogspot.com
It’s amazing how I can call ‘em. No matter how ghetto Toccara is, there is no reason for the condescending words and tone…”Show some class”…”Be a woman”. Every time I think about it, I get angry all over again. Over my *cough* years, I have seen numerous “Dr. Ian” ’s and they are all alike. In order to leave the ghetto behind, they think that they have to leave black women behind also. He may not have lived in a ghetto, but we all know that the ghetto is not a place, but a state of mind.
Boo to you, Dr. Ian…and the Horse you rode in on. Now THAT was ghetto!
That’s harsh Jorundi…you almost seem to associate the word ‘class’ as some sort of veiled weapon used by black men in interracial relationships.
I think it’s more Harvard-speak than subtle decrying of black women. but you could be right; I tend to not have a problem with black men marrying white women.
You don’t care about black men marrying white woman, you care about black men marrying your white men!
Just so you all know…Dr. Ian (the black doctor on Celebrity Fit Club) has a BLACK wife. JET magazine did a spread on his wedding in which I read and saw a picture of him and his Nubian goddess bride cutting a rug on the dance floor.
You all think your nickel’s slick but I got your penny change.

You needn’t pretend you’re “Freshening up” to go to the bathroom. It was joke ^_^

First of all I think the show is wonderful! There are so many many people that are over weight and desperately wants to lose the weight but does not know how. Often times overweight people take offense to those people that think it is so easy and say things like “Just go on a diet or cut-back” when in reality being obese is a disease just is being an alcoholic. Could you tell an alcoholic to just put down the bottle? I am 34 yrs old and have been overwieght all of my life. I have tried diet pills after diet pills, and cutting back I don’t think I eat that much however it is quite obvious that something is putting on the weight. I am a southern girl, born and raised in Mississppi, so the only foods that I am accustomed to is “Soul Food” which is high in colesterol, salt and fat. I know these things but honestly I do not know how to change. Join a gym some might say, but in today’s economy and being a single parent of two young children I don’t have the money nor the time. I have thought seriously of the weight loss surgery and I really don’t want to lose it that way because of the sagging skin that remains along with all of the other health side affects that goes along with it. However your program is teaching or rather making people choose the right eating patterns, exercise, and challenge as well as reward the weight loss. And most of us need that, Just that little extra push of encouragment make things happen. I dream of that happening to me, however I’m not a celebrity and the chances of me coming to the show are I’m sure slim to none, but in the future if you guys ever should choose someone that needs the help other than celebrities Please Please choose me. I would love to run outside and play with my children. I would love to take them Trick o Treating. I would love to dress like my daughter and go out and have mommy and daughter day. I would love to take my son out and play catch with him. If you guys could just let one person ordinary, average person, overweight person be included with the celebrities each season or show it would be so so wonderful. That one person would be so motivated simply because he/she is surrounded by Celebrities that are having the same problem as he/she and they would work just as hard or more to lose the weight. Normally celebrities have the money to have in-house gyms personal trainers and also their own personal chef. The average overweight mom does not have the necessities. Please Please at least consider these things and make a fat girl dream come true!!! Job Well Done
