To answer your question, though… go to Gravatar.com and instructions are there to follow.
You need to use the email address you’d use here; have a picture ready (either from your avatar or somewhere in cyberspace), then you simply follow their instructions as accurately as possible.

Because of the size constraint you’ll need to crop your picture and they will provide a thingy for you to capture just what you need to in the limited space.
