Flavor Flav is coming at you, Modesto.

The rapper and reality star is bringing Flavor Flav’s Block Party to town Aug. 23 for a street show inside and outside the Fat Cat Music House & Lounge.

Yes, that Flavor Flav.

Public Enemy Flavor Flav.

“The Surreal Life” Flavor Flav.

“Strange Love” Flavor Flav.

“Flavor of Love” seasons one to three Flavor Flav.

You know, the guy who wears the big clock. Yeah boyyyy!

Tickets go on sale July 25, and already some unexpected people are excited about going to the big show.

People (who shall remain unnamed) like a co-worker known as the Martha Stewart of the newsroom.

After she heard the news, said person (still unnamed) responded, “But what will I wear?!”

Bear in mind, her normal workplace attire on any given day includes a blouse in a lovely pastel color and some nice khakis. It’s also not uncommon for her to bring in peach cobbler for our department to share.

Yet this mother of two (steadfastly unnamed) has watched Flavor Flav on all his shows: “The Surreal Life,” “Strange Love,” “Flavor of Love” seasons one, two and three and even his spinoff, “I Love New York” seasons one and two.

The dichotomy of this is both delicious and delightful, not unlike her peach cobbler.

Of course, it also speaks to the universal appeal of Flavor Flav. While he once was known primarily as a member of one of the nation’s most politically conscious and controversial rap groups, Public Enemy, his image has changed over the years.

In 2004, Flav joined the cast of the VH1 reality series “The Surreal Life” and suddenly his fan base went from teenagers to mothers-of-two and beyond.

Event promoter Everett Hunter of EH Presents is working in collaboration with Pure 209 and Chris Ricci Presents to put on the indoor-outdoor event.

Also performing at Flavor Flav’s Block Party will be a slate of up-and-coming hip-hop and R&B artists including Prima J.

Gates will open at 8 p.m. and the party will go until 1:30 a.m.

Hunter said he expects the 5,000-capacity event to sell out. Tickets are $20 in advance, $30 at the gate — if any are left. They will be available through Tickets.com, ehpresents.com and the Fat Cat. Call 581-7643. Flavor Flav will bring his block party to Modesto on Aug. 23.
