Jess’ True Blood Season 2 Recap: Episode 7
bourgy all-stars

All aboard the betrayal train this week on True Blood. Everyone lies, a few cry, and someone even dies. Read on for more, or else the horned god Dionysus is gonna git ya.

On Sam and Daphne…

Sam and Daphne - True BloodThis week’s episode picks up where we last left off, except from the point of view of Bon Temps least favorite dumb-ass sheriff, Andy Bellfleur. Andy has just tripped over a tree branch running in the forest, screaming ‘PIG!’ (It never gets old.)

While running, he stumbles upon the climax of Maryann’s orgy. He’s aghast at what he’s seeing, so much so that he shoots his gun off. Thankfully, Sam -who was captured and being held against his will- escapes by punching Daphne in the face and running away with Maryann giving chase.

They’re running through the forest when Sam spots a bird in a tree and quickly shifts into a bird and flies away. Sam reaches Merlotte’s, and runs into his office for his gun. He then return to the lake behind Merlotte’s, where he and Daphne had their first swim. Daphne is sitting on the edge of the dock, and without even looking, knows Sam is behind her.

Nonchalantly, she approaches Sam, his gun pointing at her and he freaks out. He puts two and two together and says to Daphne that Maryann gave her the scars on her back and that’s how Maryann got Daphne to be her whore.
Daphne replies, ‘It ain’t whorin’ if you do it for love.’ (Yeah, that’s called prostitution.)
Sam wrongly thinks it’s him, and Daphne giggles and says she’s talking about Maryann.

When Daphne swims in the lake, Sam asks her what the hell Maryann is. Daphne says Maryann is god.
Daphne - True BloodSam, befuddled (like the rest of us), asks her what she means. Daphne replies that Maryann is a Maenad. (About time.)
Maenads, Daphne explains, are the hand-maidens of the Greek God Dionysus. Dionysus, while the God of wine as Sam notes, is also the horned god (aka Satan.)

She also tells Sam that Maryann’s powers don’t work on other supernatural (Or soups, but that’s lame.) people such as her and Sam. Later, Andy comes into Merlotte’s and starts yelling at everyone, telling them they’re zombies and devil worshipers. He’s also screaming for Terry to come out from the kitchen to kick his ass for breaking his arm last night during the orgy. Sam sees all of this, but doesn’t say anything.

When night comes, Daphne meets Maryann at the dock behind Merlotte’s. Daphne tells Maryann she misses her, and Maryann replies, ‘Thank you for your service.’ Daphne questions it for a second, when out of the darkness comes Eggs, obviously under Maryann’s spell. Eggs then stabs Daphne in the heart and we’re lead to believe that she is dead. (Good. That whole speech she gave same about what Maryann was factually/historically wrong and slightly offensive when you consider we’re comparing that used douche bag Maryann to ACTUAL GODS OF ACTUAL RELIGIONS.)
.

On Tara and Eggs…

Eggs Benedict - True BloodAt the orgy, Tara and Eggs are under Maryann’s spell. Tara moseys on over to Sam, and licks his face.
When Sam ultimately gets away, Eggs screams some unintelligible sound. The next morning, Tara and Eggs wake up on the couch and talk about the previous night. Tara says she doesn’t remember anything past finding the trail of clothes into the forest. Eggs tells her that it’s just Maryann’s weed. (Weed that makes you black out? I want some.)

Maryann arrives, feet all bloody, and something dripping. Asked what happened, Maryann says she slept outside last night, and killed a rabbit for stew. Tara and Eggs comment on how weird Maryann is and go about their day.

Over at Merlotte’s, Tara is tending bar while she flirts with Eggs. Arlene comes in, all panicky, and pulls Tara into the women’s bathroom. In there we find Lafayette (This show needs more Lafayette.) pushing V.

Tara makes a quip about it being the women’s bathroom and he’s a man, and he replies by asking what them skank ho’s are doing there. (Zing.)
After Lafayette leaves, Arlene tells Tara she thinks she date-raped Terry last night.
At the bar, Lafayette spots Eggs. He senses trouble as Eggs introduces himself. Tara intervenes and says to Eggs, ‘Your name is Benedict, why don’t people call you Ben?’
‘Or dict?’, Lafayette volunteers.

Tara tells him to behave, to which he describes Eggs as ‘the devil in a beautiful Sunday hat. A damn beautiful Sunday hat.’ Also, we’re now led to believe that Eggs, under Maryann’s spell, is the one actually killing people.
.

On Sookie…

Sookie - True BloodLast week, Sookie and Isabel’s boyfriend Hugo got kidnapped and thrown in the basement of the Fellowship of the Sun church. There, we learn that Hugo is claustrophobic, and FOTS likes crossing children’s board games with their hate.
Eventually Reverend Newlin comes in, and (falsely) puts two and two together about why her brother, Jason, is there. When he leaves, Sookie tries to telepathically communicate with Barry (the other telepath, in case you forgot. I don’t blame you if you did.) telling him her location and that Godric is there.

During one of Hugo’s fits, Sookie touches him, and we learn that Hugo was the traitor. He was listening to all the conversations and plans, and forwarded them over to FOTS. Sookie questions why he would do such a thing, and Hugo tells her that he did it because Isabel refused to turn him and that would be the only way they could ever be together; as equals.

Later, Gabe, the fucking douche bag of all douche bags, beats the crap out of Hugo. Sookie tries to stop him, but he starts beating on her, too.

Barry gets the message and knocks on Bill’s door at the hotel and tells him what’s going on. Bill is tied up at the moment, but Eric overhears and whooshes by. Before Eric gets there, Gabe attempts to rape Sookie, while saying very vile things I refuse to repeat here.
Then, out of nowhere, we hear a whoosh and Sookie is saved. (SO FULL OF WIN.)
Sookie looks up and we see who saved her, it is Godric! (He looks cute, but not much more than that.)
.

On Bill and Lorena…

Bill in 1935 - True BloodContinuing from last week, Lorena still has Bill trapped in his hotel room. Bill keeps trying to leave, but that’s impossible… Lorena is Bill’s maker and a lot stronger and faster than he is.
In another flashback (Los Angeles 1935), Lorena brings home a young chorus girl from a musical, obviously to feast on. She tells Bill he should try her, but Bill orders her to leave.
Lorena and Bill argue and Bill tells Lorena he can’t stand the sight of her.
Lorena wonders if they should go back south and maybe Bill will be less depressed. Bill says no and Lorena reminds he is a vampire, and humans are food.

Back in the present, it is daytime now. Though they are in a light-blocking room, Bill and Lorena start getting the ‘bleeds’, Bill from his ears, and Lorena from her nose. Bill attempts to get his cell phone, but Lorena gets to it first and crushes it. He then asks her if he can’t go, can he at least call someone who can, like Eric Northman. (bahahahaha.)

She tells him that Eric is the reason why she’s here, and Bill fumes. (For a 173 year old vampire, you sure do love acting 4.)

When Sookie rape attack begins, Bill’s Sookie-sense goes off and he tries throwing a table at Lorena to get to her, but she gets him just as he reaches the door and has a wooden stake to his back.

We flash back again to 1935 where Lorena and Bill are still fighting. Lorena says she gave him everything and that he is hers, while Bill begs to be set free. Bill –in that lame southern gentleman thing he does- tells her that he doesn’t love her, and Lorena says he never tried.
Bill disagrees, and adds that he’s killed people for her.

At this point, Lorena is shaking with rage, as Bill continues to verbally assault her. She then throws him through a coffee table, when he picks up a stake from the broken coffee table and points it at her.
She asks him if he hates her that much, when he turns the stake on himself. (Mildly shocking. I’d stake myself, too, if Lorena was my maker.)

He asks her again to release him, and Lorena, not wanting him to die, says, ‘As your maker, I release you.’
Bill is free to go!

Back in the present, Bill says to Lorena that she released him, and she says he has no future with Sookie.
They fight and as Lorena is about to stake him, Barry knocks on the door and gives him the message. (Barry also gets pulled into Bill’s room by a lone hand, but I’m not sure they’ll follow up with this.)
.

On Jason…

Jason and Sarah Newlin - True BloodThis week is the aftermath of Jason and Sarah sleeping together. Sarah starts crying, and Jason asks her what’s wrong. She says it’s because she’s happy and that she’s never felt this close to God before, with Steve. (Oh give me a fucking break.)
She tells Jason they have to tell Steve about this because they’re wearing their honesty rings. Jason convinces her not to, for a brief only, as the lock-in is tonight.

Sarah spills the beans to him that Steve is using him to start a war. Jason, not agreeing with this, packs his bags and tries to leave when he is stopped by Steve. Steve tells him to get in the van, and he will be punished for siding with them. Gabe comes around and puts a knife to Jason’s throat.

Later we see Gabe with Jason walking in the woods. Gabe starts talking trash about Sookie, and Jason loses it. He head butts Gabe, causing him to drop the knife. Gabe asks if that’s the best he’s got and talks more trash about Sookie. Jason kicks his ass, again, takes the knife, and runs away.

Three hours later, it’s night time, and Sarah drives up on him. She gets out of the car, shoots Jason, and he falls. (The way they shot it, they’re making us think that she really shot him, but that gun looks the same as the paintball gun Steve had in a previous ep. They wouldn’t kill off Jason like that. Daphne maybe, but not Jason.)
.

On Everyone Else and Next Week…

(Since this is already a long recap, I’ll just consolidate everyone else into this.)

Jessica and Hoyt were really cute this week. They both lost their virginity to each other in a room filled with blood-scented candles and ‘Bleeding Love’ by Leona Lewis in the background. (DEAD!)
(Also, I’m surprised the age thing hasn’t come up. Hoyt is 28 and Jessica is 17, and not like vampire 17, literally 17. Whatever!)

Eric was pretty bad ass in this episode. He left the hotel in one of the fastest whoosh’s I’ve ever heard, as soon as he overheard Barry’s message. He also cried a single blood tear, when Stan disses him for FOTS having Sookie and Godric. (I firmly believe Eric would NEVER do that, however, he was so cute OMG.)

Next week looks pretty fucking good, if I do say so myself. Very Eric-centric and I think we’re going to finally end some of the plots.

  1. I assume Maryann is her name…what is she? A nympho 3 toed sloth? Maybe I should watch the entire episode, but what is that lady creature?

    1. She’s a Maenad. I think the 3 fingers/toes thing has to do with how Maenads are hand-maidens/followers of Dionyus. In the Sookieverse (ie. not real life) Dionysus is kind of like Satan.

  2. Finally a new post. I’m so sick of the fights.
It’s so much scrolling I have to do. -__-

    1. Jess told me that she wants this post to have strictly True Blood-relative comments only.

      1. Good luck with that, Jess.
You might luck out if the trolls don’t watch True Blood.
        Great recap though!

  6. I seen in the previews of next wk esp, it is a paintball gun, and sarah standing over him….and might i add godric is hot!!!

    1. I don’t know how I feel about him, yet. He must be something special if he can make Eric go all O_O *bows*. I love him right now because that scene where he saved Sookie from being raped was awesome. As for his looks, I need more time to judge.

      1. present day godric was so hotter than nortic savage godric. IMO

        1. and the fact tht he came 2 sookies rescue. makes him hot 2

          1. You know, I actually agree. Present day Godric is a whole lot better looking. For sure.

    1. I can’t wait for how it’s going to play out when Bill and Maryann meet.

  10. so eggs was maryanns accomplice(sp) in the attack of the voodoo woman….but whats still a mystery 2 me is season 1 when bill attemped suicide by trying 2 save sookie during the daytime, he got better and he said he fed off someone (i assumed it was voodoo lady but the stratches proved otherwise)…who was it? or is it irrelevent 2 the story now?

  11. Hey Sunnylena, I don’t think it matters who he fed off of.
We assume he killed the person, but that might not be completely true.
Hell we assumed it was a person, it could have been a vampire or anything really.

    1. I agree, Trouble. I think it’s irrelevant now. We would’ve heard something about it.
I think they wanted to do that because Ms. Jeanette was dead and they needed suspects, and Lafayette had gone missing.

  12. Hey great recap Jess. One issue though, Jason didn’t pack his bags to leave because the FOTS war. Jason left because Sara was going to tell her husband that Jason slept with her.
Also if you watched him after they had sex, while she was talking about her great it was, and when she said she loved him, he pulled back….he’s that type of guy.

    1. That might have been my fault through editing, Trouble.

      1. No worries! It just makes Jason seem a lot more noble then he is, or will ever be!
        Lol!

    2. Ayeee.

  13. Steupz- Did you put up the worst Sookie pic you could find? Hahaha I am on my phone so I didn’t notice it at first.

    1. Lol.
Nah, I take screencaps from the movie download, so like whatever grabs my attention, I crop.

I don’t like that Jason pic either.

  19. Great recap…..kudo’s to Jess! This week’s episode was the most attention grabbing of the season. I really want to see more of Godric.

    1. Thanks KG. :) <3

  20. Somewhat relevant to the topic……ratings time

True Blood episode 7: 4.3 million
CS3 finale (official total): 2.073 million
    MWAM premiere: 1.527 million

    1. Ooof.

      Thanks. :)

    2. lmfaoooo @ MWAM

that premiere is worse than DOL. How sad…

    3. CS did better than I expected.
MWAM wasn’t that bad. It should of done better than DOL IMO.

    4. I hope MWAM somehow gets better ratings in the next episode. Daisy’s flop show can’t do better than this.

  21. Great recap Jess ;)

    1. Thanks boo <33

      1. Sure thing.

  22. There are so many different plots going on. I really want the fellowship of the sun thing to end already, I’m way more interested in Maryann’s plot.

Does anyone else think they’re setting us up for a Maryann VS Sookie fight? Seriously so much hints towards it.

PS: does anyone think Sookie should be able to fight? I mean, she’s a telepath so why can’t she have like telekinesis and like move shit with her mind?

    1. i thought it was only vampires on this show

    2. I think so, but more along the lines of like Bill vs. Maryann. That would be interesting.

She can’t move shit with her mind because she’s telepathic, not telekinetic. She can communicate to other telepaths, which is a weapon on it’s own. But I think if Sookie had powers like you mentioned, I don’t think she’d be able to do the Mary Sue/helpless female character at all.

  23. ugH jESS THANK YOU FOR THE RECAP I WAS GOING INSANE CAUSE I MISSED IT

    1. No prob. Detailed enough for ya? :)

  24. Great job, Jess.

    1. Thanks, CL!
I didn’t you know watched True Blood?

      1. I don’t. But I found your post interesting and entertaining.

        1. Mail.

  25. Well, going back to Haterade’s idea, theoretically, a telepath ought to be able to exact mind control. If they can hear thoughts then the reverse should be true. And not with other telepaths only.

    1. True but telepathy and telekinesis are different.

Telepathy you can read minds/hear thoughts. Telekinesis you can move shit with your mind etc. Sookie is the former, while someone like say, Carrie, from the movie Carrie, is the latter.

      1. Yeah, I’m not disputing that… I’m talking entering the person’s mind as a weapon.

        1. Oh. But isn’t having a power like that what you make of it? Could be used for good or bad? It’s possible it could be used as a weapon.

      2. is actress that plays sookie is that rouge from X-men

        1. Yes

          1. OHHHHHHHH
she was much cuter on X-men

  26. gash

    1. I think it’s clear that Jess wants TB posts only, Brandon.

      1. oh,that was a TB related statement.the actress that plays sookie hows that not TB related.

    2. what the hell it came out as gash did you edit it steupz.

  27. Great recap Jess!!!

I haven’ finished season 1 yet, no time. :( .

I’m kinda lost but I can’t really watch the show here. I have to watch it on the computer cause I don’t get HBO and there are too many little kids running in an out of my house.

    1. Thanks. :)

      And aww. :( That sucks.

      1. I’ll finish it when I move back into my apartment for school. You know I’ll be procrastinating. :)

  28. I don’t know if maryann has as much significance as daphne thinks. I don’t mean as a character … just the whole god/satan thing. but by exaggerating maryann’s importance, daphne upped her own status. remember she was trying to justify to sam why she helped bring him in for sacrifice.

  29. I thought Jason was leaving cause he didn’t want to be there when Sara told her husband about teh sex.

could be either one, i guess.

  30. Is anyone else a Lorena fan?
    I am digging her.

  31. This episode was great but I was just wondering if the sequence at the end with Jason getting shot was a dream cause that was my immediate thought.

And it looks like the queen of louisiana is showing up this season, which should be interesting because she appears in the 5th book or 6th.

    1. No Azorel, not a dream it really happened. If you get a good look at Saras gun you’ll notice that it looks exactly like the paint ball gun that Steve showed to Jason when they went paintballing.
I would never think that Sara could or would actually shoot anyone.

  32. I am a big fan of Lorena.
I ended up feeling really bad for her and angry with Bill for treating her so badly.

I like her better on the show then in the books.

  33. MY FAVORITE EPISODE WHEN I SAW BILL & LORENA FEEDING ON TWO HUMANS IN CHICAGO IN 1926 I REALLY LIKED IT WHEN BILL SHOWED HIS DARKER VAMPIRE SIDE THAT VAMPIRE SIDE WAS COOL.
