Jess’ True Blood Season 2: Episode 8 Recap
bourgy all-stars

I’m just going to skip the lame introduction and cut right to the chase: True Blood was AWESOME this week. Really. Friggin’. Awesome.

(Note: I’m going to group the whole FOTS debacle into one paragraph, instead of ‘bulleting’ the characters because mostly everyone was involved in it.)

On the Fellowship of the Sun vampire throw down…

Godric and GabeWe pick up right where we left off, with Godric coming out of hiding to save Sookie from being raped. Gabe is seen struggling, when Godric snaps his neck. (YES!)
Godric tells Sookie she shouldn’t have come.
When Sookie thinks Bill has arrived, Godric knows better… ‘I am here, my child.’ he says, as Eric comes in (with a look on his face that can only accurately be described as *_*) and kneels at his feet.

Godric tells him he was a fool for sending a human, and to get Sookie out with no blood spilled. He also tells Eric that Hugo is the traitor. Eric doesn’t pay much mind to that and asks Godric how long it’s been since he’s fed. Godric tells him he doesn’t need much blood anymore, and that’s when the alarms in the FOTS church go off.

Eric and Sookie attempt to escape, but stop when they come across humans wrapped in silver chains with wooden stakes.
Sookie wonders why Eric didn’t bring Bill with him and Eric says that Bill’s attachment to her is irrational, and he would kill every child in the church to save her. Sookie then stupidly asks why isn’t he doing the same.

Eric answers that he’s just following Godric’s orders. Sookie asks Eric if Godric is his maker and he tells her ‘Don’t use words you don’t understand.’
To which she replies, you have a lot of love for him.’ He rejoinders, ‘Don’t use words I don’t understand.’ (and fan girls all over the world explode in unison.)

Eric begins to walk away when Sookie says don’t, and Eric leans in and tells her to trust him. Walking over to the FOTS people guarding the door, he tells them -in an obviously fake and satirical voice- Steve sent him.
EricThey ask where his stake is and Eric begins to glamour one of them to give it to him, when one of the guys brings his stake back and Sookie screams ‘STEAK!’

Eric punches the guy behind him and plants the stake into another guys’ neck. Sookie tells Eric not to kill him and they run away, into the church where they encounter Reverend Steve Newlin, who announces war on the vampires.
Sookie says Godric escaped, but Steve corrects her and says any vampire will do. Eric then looks at Sookie, tells her he will be fine, and then offers himself, in place of Godric.

Later, Eric is chained down by silver chains on some sort of table, while Reverend Newlin spouts some bullshit about how Jesus was betrayed for 30 pieces of silver, and a few ounces can betray a child of Satan. Sookie notes that it’s bullshit, when Eric says he’s offering himself for Godric.

Then, zooming through the doors amidst an ocean of screams, is Bill. Bill screams Sookie’s name and she does the same. Bill is in kill mode when Reverend Newlin draws a gun, and says he will shoot Sookie if Bill comes any closer. Bill says that if he kills Sookie, everyone will die. Reverend Newlin wonders what the vampires see in Sookie, and as he orders FOTS’ers to get chains for Bill, a voice screams ‘NEWLIN!’ and he gets shot in the hand by a paintball gun.

The voice is Jason, who then shoots Reverend Newlin again in the head. While everyone is in shock, Bill rescues Sookie. She pulls away and takes the silver chains off of Eric. (Anyone notice how Sookie did the same thing to Bill in season 1? Foreshadowing…)

Eric grabs the Reverend and throws him down as he stares at him, wanting to kil.
Sookie screams that Eric doesn’t have to kill him, but Jason tells him to kill the motherfucker. The Reverend wants to die, but I’m not sure anyone else does.
At that moment, Stan and his team of cowboy vampires (Complete with a black man, Steupz) show up and create even more of a ruckus.
Stan throws out there that they were the ones who killed the first Reverend Newlin (no shit.) and Steve screams ‘MURDERER!’

Stan basically says ‘duh’, and orders the vampires to kill everyone. The vampires each grab a church-goer when another voice says ‘Enough!’.
SookieEveryone stops and looks up… it’s Godric!
Godric wants peace, and says that there is no reason for killing. He then asks the Reverend were the vampires leave FOTS/humans alone, would he do the same.

Reverend Newlin tells them that he won’t negotiate with sub-humans. He pulls down his tie and offers his neck to Eric, saying that Jesus will protect him. Godric then says ‘I am older than your God. I wish I could have met him, but I missed it.’ (Can you say OWNED?)

Godric then whooshes down faster than anything we’ve ever seen and grabs the Reverend and asks if anyone is willing to die for him. Obviously nobody is, and Godric tells the vampires to stand down, and orders the church-goers to leave.
Stan, looking depressed at not killing anyone, tries to change Godric’s mind but Godric says leave, and Stan reluctantly agrees.

Eric walks over to Bill and Sookie and asks if Sookie is okay. Bill glares at him and tells him to go be with his maker. Eric leaves when Jason runs up to Sookie and apologizes for being an ignorant douche. He says Reverend Newlin sucked out his brain and planted his babies in there.
Reverend Newlin tells them that he’ll see who goes to heaven and who goes to hell, but Jason retorts , ‘I’ve already been to heaven, and it’s inside your wife.’ (DEAD!)

Before the Reverend can comprehend what was just said, Jason punches him in the face. Bill holds him back, and as they’re walking away, he throws his honesty ring at him and calls him a ‘white suit wearing motherfucker.’

    1. LOL I get six pages.
      Sorry<3

  2. Bill already staked a vampire once and was n deep shit maybe he learned his lesson?(in response 2 y bill didnt stake lorena)

    1. Yeah, I thought about that. I think it’s just cause I hate Lorena.

    2. Is it even possible to stake your maker without serious consequence.

We saw what happened when they killed a lowly vampire.

  3. Awesome episode, recap, everything!

    1. Thanks :D

  4. By the way, I still haven’t really seen the episode, just scanned through it, but I think we need a bit more from Godric.

I’ll have to warm to him, but he looks too feeble. Should have cast that part more ably, I think.

    1. GODRIC IS AWESOME. Just watch, you’ll see.

      1. I heart Godric!!

        1. :::shields self from Godric groupies:::

          1. Godric is a BAMF, you cannot escape the Godric fangirling.

  5. OMG I get my own tag? HAHA AWESOME.

  6. Any thoughts on not bleeding Barry?
Is it just a taste thing? Or is it more than that? And why didn’t Bill say something when he took Sookie.

    1. I think it might just be because Barry is telepathic, but Bill not saying something makes me wonder. I’m going to have to find that episode because now I’m seriously thinking lol.

    2. not bleeding barry??? did i miss something?

  7. @Sunnylena – I think I’m gonna steal your idea and make Godric my gravatar lol.

    1. ur godric pic is cuter than mine, lemme find another one

  8. So yeah, my take on all of this, we are meant to like Godric WAY TOO MUCH for him to stick around.
I feel that he is going to ‘jump on the grenade’ and die to save everyone.
I was bored and read wikis, and apparently Godric is a suicidal pedo in the books, who wants himself to die by meeting the sun.

    1. Makes a lot of sense. Dude isn’t even feeding and lying about being evolved.

      1. LOL He’s not feeding because he doesn’t actually need it. He’s old enough where he doesn’t require so much.. He goes back to Roman times lol.

Godric could’ve killed everyone when they took him, but he didn’t.

        1. I don’t buy it because that sorta implies he’s reverting to humanity which could make him weaker or mortal.
(just going all over the place, mind)

But seriously, I don’t like these characters exhibiting characteristics that have never been hinted at with others.

Why is Eric only now noticing Godric hardly feeds?

          1. AFAIK, Eric and Godric haven’t seen each other in a long time, so that could be a possible explanation to why Eric is just now noticing it.

    2. Actually there is no ‘Godric’ in the books, it’s supposed to be ‘Godfrey.’ Where does it say he’s a pedo? I know in the books he wants to die but I think we’ve gone around it with this episode.

      **SPOILER**
He’s taking all the heat for the PR disaster in the next episode with Nan Flannagan
      **SPOILER**

  9. godric
    1. Cool Steupz.

      1. Not me… the site does that.

        1. niiice.

  10. dayum, i always come here at the wrong times (since I don’t watch True Blood).

so I will just say… hi everyone!

    and

    Bye everyone!

    1. Come to the RCOL thread!

And you really MUST watch this show, girl, it’s goooooood.

  11. Jessica
  12. In the books Godric regrets all his centuries of murdering innocent children and what not. I dont think that makes him a pedofile also considering that he is 16 in human years.
Also im pretty sure his name was Godric and not Godfrey although I wouldnt be certain.

    1. No, in the books his name is Godfrey lol.

Also, I didn’t think that murdering children meant you wanted to molest them lol. I think it just makes you a savage. (Not saying you said that, just because what someone above said)

  13. Good job Jess as always! This was the best episode yet. It thrilled me to see how Godric totally owned Lorena! Now that was some great TV! And I am absolutly crushing on Stan…love that fake Texas accent of his!

    1. Thanks boo!

I kinda liked Stan, but if you watch the preview closely, I don’t think it looks too good for Stan…..

  14. I’m surprised nobody caught my Myammee ILM3 reference regarding Lorena and Sookie.

    1. Probably because no one read it.

      1. Was that called for? Really, was it?

    2. I did! And I laughed out loud. You might even say that I lol’d.

  15. i read on true-blood.net (i think?) two vampires die n next wks esp…Godric??? i hope not. i wouldnt miss lorena…we’ll have 2 wait and see i guess.

    1. I just read that too. However, I don’t think it’s next week. I think it’s just for the rest of the season.

“Any scoop on True Blood? The season is dragging for me. — Danny
MICKEY: Well, would Sookie and Eric naked in bed together spice things up for you, Danny? You’ll see that, and the death — yes, death — of two prominent vampires, before the end of the season.”

  16. You won’t miss Lorena!!??
She’s my fave on the show!

  17. Completely spoiler free article about the next episode of True Blood:

  21. This story arc was drawn out way too long. Was good finally they spent most of the episode finishing it up. Lets hope Tera will be killed next episode then I will be really happy. They spend way too much time on that crappy side story..

  22. Can’t wait 4 tonight’s ep!

    From thestar.com (Canada)

Bloody mess: This week on True Blood, Sookie’s captivity takes an unexpected turn when Eric arrives and faces a Freedom of the Sun church in full lockdown mode. In Bon Temps, Sam finds himself in hot water after making a gruesome discovery at Merlotte’s. Jessica and Hoyt learn that when it comes to sex, every time is the first time, while Tara and Eggs get physical after partaking in a “Hunter soufflé’ prepared by Maryann.

  23. Damnit, wrong article… today’s ep summary’s the one I meant to post

    :(

  24. I WILL RISE UP

Tara will play a major role in the future of the True Blood storyline. Wheeling out of control under the demented guidance of the Dionysian goddess bull-creature, Maryann, Tara, in a drunken haze, slaps her mama O_o. Lafayette, Tara’s cousin, accuses Eggs of causing the bruises on Tara’s body and, with the help of Tara’s mom, Lettie Mae, attempts to devise a plan to rescue Tara from Maryann’s diabolical influence.
Meanwhile, back in Dallas, a wounded Eric plays Sookie for a fool, to Bill’s dismay. Later on, Jason and Sookie bond over their recent experiences and hardships. Hoyt stands his ground and defends his blossoming relationship with vampire Jessica. Eric and the rest of the Dallas vampires must make their case of their recent course of action against the Fellowship of the Sun to Nan Flanagan, and are stunned when Godric decides to take responsibility for their massive PR disaster.
