The numbers are in and the For the Love of Ray J 2 premiere turned in a disastrous 1.271 million viewers on VH1. When combined with the concurrent MTV airing, the show still failed to cross the 2 million viewer mark at only 1.916 million viewers.
This marks the lowest premiere ever for any 51 Minds produced show. It is a far cry from February when the first season premiere pulled 2.4 million viewers and even more disappointing considering it could not retain half of the 2.5 million viewers who tuned in to watch the Real Chance of Love 2 finale last week.

Well…no surprise there. It was a total snoozefest. There were no verbal arguments, no pouring of drinks atop beweaved heads, and there was certainly not the shameless defamation of character that I have become accustomed to on Vh1 shows.
And Ray J is…well he’s not even likeable in my opinion. His “confessionals” seem extremely rehearsed and there’s only so many eyebrow raises, head nods, and fist pumps one can take before the necessity for real words becomes apparent.

Wow, it sucks that this show is getting such low ratings; I thought the first season was the best show 51 Minds put out this year. I think besides the show being online and on MTV first, the World Series and a good Monday Night Football game probably hurt the ratings too.

I don’t think VH1 putting the show online 6 days before it aired hurt the show because they do that with every show and it doesn’t make much of a difference because the premieres and finales are typically the highest rated episodes of the season. That wasn’t the case for the first season of FTLORJ but it also didn’t start off this weak either and it had a strong lead-in with ILM2 even though it always managed to get 200k more viewers.
I think what really hurt the show was football and the World Series. It’s clear football hurt RCOL2 (because every episode after the first episode was garbage and it still had decent numbers for the first 5 episodes). Next week there will be no more World Series but it’s still gonna have to deal with football pretty much all season so unless it manages to find an audience quickly it’s only going to get worse from here and worse means that I won’t be able to get the numbers from anywhere just by looking at random ratings lists.

Not only was MNF a rivalry game but the New York Yankees are the biggest possible ratings draw for the World Series; I’ll bet this year’s World Series is the highest rated one in years. If some of the MNF games stink from next week on then maybe the ratings for FTLORJ2 won’t be as bad as some of the 51 Minds shows earlier this year.
The World Series is pulling in colossal numbers this year. Not record numbers but higher than recent years. The past couple of years have only averaged between 11-15 million. This year the number is 15-22 million.
That’s not surprising. Two big market teams in the Northeast would definitely bump up the ratings for the World Series and then you had the Atlanta Falcons, another large market team playing on MNF. That’s a lot of people that could’ve brought the ratings for FTLORJ2 down.

I might be thinking a little old fashion but it just seems like the sports would draw more men or female sports fans, and those who are interested in sports would not be drawn to a show such as what VH1 puts out.
(I drew this conclusion from talking with people at work, females who are into football would never watch a VH1 show, and those that do watch are more prone to watch lifetime movies on the weekends then sports)
Football and baseball attract male viewers and black viewers and both RCOL and FTLORJ attract at least a 50% black audience where a show like DOL would only attract like a 15-20% black audience. I also think that male and female viewers are pretty much evenly split for all the 51 Minds shows so sports would hurt both shows by taking away black viewers and male viewers.

As much as we all say we love the “of love” series, if you really think about it, the series truly has deteriorated from what it once was. Remembering back on Flavor of Love, I love New York, and Rock of love (for seasons one and two), the new of love shows are nothing in comparison to the original shows (rolb and fol3 failed). They lack originality, drama, and comedy entirely. I think the general audience is just turned off by these spin offs now, and no longer find them believable or enjoyable. Not to mention, the whole Ryan Jenkinz situation was like a stake to the already dying heart of 51 minds. I think if 51 minds truly wishes to recover from their current failure, they need to construct an entirely new plan.

Giving spin offs to people who are boring, and possibly gay (Real and Chance) DOESN’T WORK. Giving a spin off to someone who everyone recognizes as an emotional train wreck (daisy) DOESN’T WORK. Giving a spin off to someone who is more known for her competitive side , ability to manipulate, and is genrally hated (Megan) DOESN’T WORK.

I refuse to jump on that ILNY3 bandwagon. I still don’t believe the show is coming because it’s been rumored to be coming for damn near 2 years. First it was after ILNY2 ended, then it was after NYGTH ended, then NYGTW was rumored to be ILNY3, then it was rumored to be coming after the end of NYGTW. NYGTW ended in June and now it’s November and STILL no word. So I wouldn’t get my hopes up on it coming because even IF VH1 sent out a press release tomorrow, VH1 has so many shows (and all but 1 (because I’m still not jumping on the ILMwhateverthehelltheywouldcallit bandwagon either) are 51 Minds shows) on the schedule that a new 51 Minds show that hasn’t been announced at this point wouldn’t air until the summer. So why get excited over something that is at least 6-9 months away?

Well this just might be a blessing in disguise. I’ve been saying for the longest they needed to stop these love shows. I’ve been knowing these shows were fake since forever but at least they were still entertaining and hilarious. Now they’re completely boring and stale. That’s mostly do to the fact that VH1/51 are casting less entertaining people and more fillers, why? I have no idea, its doing nothing but running die hard fans like myself away. I remember the old days when the boring contestants were the first to go and all the entertaining ones stayed until the very end, now it’s the complete opposite; Entertaining people go and boring people stay, you can look at Real Chance Of Love 2 for proof of that.
Another reason why its going down hill is because they’re just giving shows to any one and every one like handing out free ipods. They’re giving them to people who don’t deserve them and who aren’t even entertaining enough to carry one. Then they have the nerve to give these same exact people a second season when the first season was already boring as fuck. I pray they end these love shows right after The Entertainer’s. Daisy and London are broken up now, I hope VH1 don’t go getting ideas about doing a second season. The first season was already pushing it and I doubt a second season would be any thing more than garbage.
What does VH1 have to do to reel me back in as a fan? Well if they do decide to keep these annoying love shows around then at least cast entertaining people. I missed the days when everyone was in each other’s faces non stop screaming. Now all we have are people smiling in each other’s faces and then insulting them in the confessionals and half the time they aren’t even funny, and when we do get shouting matches they are heavily edited and only last for a matter of three seconds. Its as if the producers are scared to show ANY drama and this was even before the whole Ryan Jenkins’s controversy. Next, they really should stop trying to air three love shows at once, just show one at a time and start giving them to people who actually DESERVE them. Also, know… when …to… stop! Don’t keep pumping out seven seasons of “For The Love Of Ray J” just for the sake of pumping them out, especially when they’re lame as fuck.
In conclusion, I’d rather have them focus on I Love Money and put all their effort into making those as extreme and hardcore as the Real World/Road Rules challenges.
But I am shocked at the ratings for this show. Especially since it did pretty well last season and somewhat brought new fans into the “Of Love” universe. Oh well, FTLORJ is overrated anyway. But I still found myself shockingly enjoying the premier. But I have a feeling things will go down hill just like CS3 & RCOL2 did.

It is!!! You will LOVE it. It’s about a blackout that occurs throughout the world for 2 minutes and 17 seconds, and during it sum ppl had visions of their feature 6 months from then. Joseph Fiennes(Hottie!!) plays the lead detective who is put in charge of uncovering why it happened and tryin 2 prevent his vision from occuring. I’d recap it but it would prolly get complicated.

DOL was pretty entertaining, but not entertaining enough for a second season. The first was pushing it. Now if I had to choose between RCOL3 or DOL2, I’d choose DOL2 in a heartbeat. But thats only if I had a gun aimed at my forehead.

Actually I don’t know the answer for that and if I don’t see them by next Thursday then I’m not going to know but it would be best to assume it’s lower than the FTLORJ2 number and that would mean it did worse than the season 1 premiere.

If thats pulling in 15-22 Million some of the audience must be from FTLORJ2! Plus, the fact MTV aired it at 3 was dumb. The time slots in which it aired were VERY stupid. If it had a better time slot without the World Series and around 8pm at night it would probably get great ratings.
If they keep this airing with the World series, it’ll just keep going down. ILNY3 and ILM4 need to come soon. You know, if you just call 51 Minds the lady pretty much tells you. She said to some people on Vevmo ILM4 will air November or December, and one guy said he messaged Lil Hood and she said she heard ILM4 will air in December. I messaged her too after I saw that and she said the same thing.
Then we should be getting that cast reveal soon if not next Monday.
I wouldn’t look for that show to start next month. Tool Academy 2 ends on Sunday and next Sunday Tough Love 2 will take it’s place meaning there’s 7-8 full weeks for shows with no room on Sundays (Since Sex Rehab just started on Sunday) and at least 10-11 full weeks for shows on Monday since FTLORJ2 and IWTWFD2 just started on Monday. There is no room on the schedule until early January and 2 shows have already been announced to start then (Pepa’s show and Celebrity Rehab), so unless VH1 opens up another night and that’s about as unlikely as them moving an existing show to another night then don’t expect that show until next year.

There are so many shows coming that I forgot a couple people even had shows. I know VH1 doesn’t announce when an ILM would start until they about a month or so before they want to put it on air but I think about all the upcoming shows and I think about when they would probably start and unless some of these new shows get pushed back then I don’t even see where an ILM would fit in until maybe March. The only positive it has is that it’s already filmed. That’s how it could sneak in January or February.
Here’s all the shows I absolutely know are coming and when I think/know they will start.
1. The Entertainer’s show (Think it will start in January)
2. Celebrity Rehab 3 (Know it will start in January)
3. Pepa’s show (Know it will start in January. It was announced the same day that Chilli’s and the Entertainer’s show was announced)
4. Chilli’s show (Think it will start in January)
5. Celebrity Fit Club 7 (Know it will start in February)
6. Makeover show (Think it will start in February/March)
7. Jessica Simpson’s show (Not a dating show. Think it will start in February/March)
8. Fantasia’s show (Also not a dating show. Think it will start in February/March)
9. T.O. Show 2-(Think it might start in April/May. Won’t start filming until January)
10. Dad Camp-(Just announced last week. Think it will probably start in May)
I did not add any of the shows that have not been confirmed by VH1 at this moment so that’s why there’s only 1 51 Minds show on that list because I am not making the assumption that there will be another season of DOL, RCOL or ILNY. Until I see a press release somewhere I’m not making any assumptions and any new dating show that VH1 would announce at this point wouldn’t start until probably May anyway.
Seeing only one 51 Minds show on that list have made me realize that VH1 are indeed done with 51.
I don’t know what they’re going to do with ILM4(or whatever they’re going to call it). In my opinion, anyone of the shows can be pushed back to make room for it since none of them sound interesting anyway.
But thanks, I guess when Enatertainer’s show ends I’ll probably be done with VH1 too, I’ll deffinitly watch Celebrity Fit Club 7, but thats the only show on that list that looks interesting.
I might watch the Entertainer’s show but that’s a show I could easily skip especially of he cast is full of trailer park trannies and the supertrailer is boring. I’ll probably watch Celebrity Fit Club too but the rest they can keep because I’m not watching none of those shows.
Damn, that’s a lot of shitty programming… perhaps it’s time to find a new hobby; it doesn’t look like I’ll be watching much tv this winter…
FTLORJ2 seems somewhat decent, but maybe thats because RCOL2 was so bad that its making everything else look alot better than what they really are.
I don’t care for IWWFD, but I must watch the episode where Poprah comes back. She’s excelent TV and is probably the best VH1 personality since NY(Before all that “New York Goes To…” bullcrap).
If it airs at all. On the VH1VIP website they’re still ‘making decisions about it’ which sounds kind of ominous if you ask me. And they’re also thinking about turning that Master P special into a full series so that’s another possible one on the list.
I seem to have interperted what was on the VH1Vip site differently. I still think it’s coming. They sent the casting call out back in August after they had the pilot up in April so I doubt they would waste all that effort if they weren’t gonna show it seeing there are no outside forces that could stop it. I could care less what ‘decisions’ they make about it because makeover shows are lame as hell.
Who knows what they are gonna do with the Master P thing. I didn’t watch the pilot and I didn’t watch the show (Personally I think all their ideas for pilots suck so I don’t watch a good 95% of them). If they were hoping to make the decision on a full season based on ratings then it’s a maybe in my opinion. 1.4 million is pretty decent for a non-51 Minds show but at the same time, it would not have gotten that if it didn’t come on directly after the RCOL2 finale and it still only to retained about half the people who watched the RCOL2 finale.
It’s possible it’s still coming, but I hope it doesn’t. I get what you said about them putting in all that effort, but they put in 10x more effort for ILM3 and look what happened lol. They also changed the name from TRANSformation 911 to TRANSform Me. A lot of people on that website had the same opinion as you about it so it might not go through.
I agree with you that most of their pilots/ideas for pilots suck and I don’t watch them either. I wasn’t one of the 1.4 million that watched Master P’s special, but I’m thinking they might green light a whole season because they said on the VH1VIP website they were planning on airing that special (which might be a pilot, who the eff knows) to put feelers out and see if they had the viewership.
